Senior Portrait Session Contra Costa County CA, Wildflower Photo Session Pixel Pages Photography
San Ramon, CA Senior Portraits
Few sessions scream spring here in the San Francisco Bay Area quite like a wildflower session. This window of time is so short in Northern California so planning and booking your date in advance is essential. But gosh the wildflower photos make for some truly spectacular images when it comes to your senior portrait session and wall art. They are completely worth the extra effort don't you think?
While hiking in Contra Costa County with a friend, I stumbled upon this field of wild mustard and lupine. I knew it would be the perfect setting for wildflower portrait sessions. The lupine has been prolific this year and I wanted to celebrate that. Lucky for me, Ella was 100% on board with trying a new location. She also happened to pick the best outfit for this session. The blue really popped against the yellow blooms. This is an example of why your style consultation can be so important. We collaborate on what clothes to wear so you can stand out and shine in your senior portraits. Also, on a side note, Ella has an uncanny knack for finding clothes on Amazon. Her mom, Emily, filled me on this pretty rad talent of hers. I commend her bravery because I am always too intimidated to buy something without trying it on. I never know if it is going to fit. But with Ella's keen eye she is able to find clothes that are not only super cute, but more importantly they fit like a glove. Lucky lady!
Senior Pictures in a Contra Costa, CA wildflower field? Heck yeah!
Here's another fun fact about Ella, her mom used to be a photographer so she knows how to work the camera. Although I never expect my clients to know how to pose and love communicating and guiding them on what to do, I didn't have to do that with Ella. All those years in front of her mom's camera have made her a natural. So instead we got to chat about shopping, her time playing soccer, prom, and how her school year has been going. I also loved having the opportunity to get to know her mom after seeing her work throughout the years. It is always exciting to talk shop with a fellow photographer.
Ella is adventurous and had no problem jumping into the flowers (we only went into bare patches to avoid crushing these tender blossoms) and getting comfortable.
Foothill High School Senior Portraits
The tricky part of this specific location can be the lighting and time. Because there are no trees there is no open shade and the light can be bright just until the sun sets. I was grateful for all my photography education so I could skillfully work with the lighting I had and manipulate it to mu advantage. The purple lupine faced the sun and had to be photographed last, just as the sun tucked itself beyond the hilltops. But oh the light at this time was spectacular! We really do have the most amazing sunsets here in the Bay Area! At this time the light was soft, warm, and really highlighted Ella and the purple hue of the flowers. Although Ella's blue dress didn't pop against the purple flowers it still complimented the landscape because all the colors were in the same cool palette tone except for Ella, which really made her stand out against the landscape. Portrait perfection!
Small town vibes with Bay Area living
One of my favorite aspects of living in the Tri Valley is the feeling of community. I love seeing so many of clients while going about my daily life and my clients often know one another. This makes it feel like we live in a small town rather than the bustling San Francisco East Bay. So in a six degrees of separation moment I discovered that not only do Ella and her mom know one of my best friends, but they also know my neighbors. Truly what a small world we live in!
Who doesn't love having a Crumbl Cookies in San Ramon???
As if I wasn't already totally spoiled with the fabulous company and a magical session, these two rad ladies surprised me with a Door Dash delivery of Crumbl Cookies after our session. Imagine my surprise when there was an 8pm knock on our door and my husband calls to me, "Do you know an Emily and Ella?" Emily had sent me the sweetest text saying, "Thank you for taking such beautiful pics!! Little something coming to you tonight as a thank you..." A dozen Crumbl Cookies is more than a little something! It made my week and I'm pretty sure it made my whole family's week lol! Such a decadent, generous, and unexpected surprise that left me on cloud nine. The carrot cake and lemon cookies were my favorite. Every time I ate one a smile came to my face as I was reminded of how truly awesome each and every one of my clients are and how much they have made a space in heart.
