Pleasanton, CA Family Pictures
One of the most treasured gifts a child can give their parents is a family portrait session. There is a tremendous return on this investment because the images will be cherished for years to come. So when Kyra reached out to me regarding a Simplicity Session in Pleasanton, CA as a gift to her parents I was thrilled. She and her sister, Marisa, wanted to give their parents a session as part of holiday gift and to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. I love the idea of a portrait session for a gift or to celebrate a milestone because not only do you have something tangible, but you also receive an experience which is a great gift to give loved ones.

Although the family portrait session was a gift, the girls wanted their mom to have input on this session and included her in the planning and scheduling. What a smart move on their part! This way they were able to ensure that their mom, Seema had a location that she loved here in the San Francisco Bay Area and one that also matched their family style and home decor. It also came in handy for scheduling because we had some big logistics to deal with. Most importantly, because Marisa was in the middle of her Air Force training at the academy in Florida, her leave dates were tentative until early December. We were all waiting and hoping that they would be approved and when dealing with the military there is not much advance notice. We also knew this would provide us with a very narrow window of time because Marisa’s leave would be short and Kyra was on break from college. Then there was that other element: Mother Nature she can be persnickety at times. We had some rather large storms headed our way. No matter how badly you want to make an outdoor session happen, sometimes nature has a way of interceding. Fortunately the stars aligned and we were able to find a break in the weather that worked with all of our tight schedules. It was my personal mission to make this session happen one way or another so Seema and Herschel could have their family portraits while both of their beloved girls were home.

This Pleasanton, CA location was important to Seema because it is a historical icon for the city, most kids in Pleasanton Unified School District take a field trip here in third grade as part of their social studies unit, which adds to the sentimental value of this location, and there are nearby hiking trails. Seema and family did a lot of hiking when everything was locked down during the initial months of the Covid pandemic. That was one of the silver linings of that time, so many people got outside, fell in love with the outdoors again, and discovered new hiking trails and other natural gems in the Bay Area and Tri Valley.

During any type of photo session, whether it is a family portrait session or senior pictures, it is important to build a relationship with my clients. I wanted to get to know Seema and her family, I wanted them to relax, we wanted to create authentic moments to really capture the spirit of their family, and I want my clients to have naturally beautiful photos while taking advantage of all the fall color. It was during this time that I learned how Seema and Herschel met. It was at the airport. I was riveted! Imagine going through the airport and you meet your soulmate?!? That is just fascinating to me and what a fun story to share with their kids and future generations!
We had a great time, we laughed, we got some priceless moments, and I found a new family to fall madly in love with. Their kindness and love for one another was genuine and effusive. Honestly, as a photographer what more could I ever ask for?
