The world needs more Callies! She is intentional, thoughtful and socially and environmentally conscious. Compassion is deeply rooted in her spirit. And speaking of spirits, once you you meet her it is deeply apparent that Callie is an old soul. At such a young age she already seems to know so much about our world and it’s various cultures.

But before we talk about Callie the graduate let’s take a moment to stroll down memory. Time is a funny thing. It passes by at lightening speed, but when we are in the thick of it we don’t really seem to notice. That is, until you stop and take a moment to really reflect on how much your kids have grown. I met Callie and her family when she was eight years old. It was their first family portrait and she was this quiet and sweet third grader who I remember just melted into her big sister. It’s hard to believe how quickly the past decade has gone by, but here we are: she’s now graduating from high school and has grown up into a stunning young woman. It certainly doesn’t seem like it’s been 10 years, but rather just a few short moments in time. Time, it’s a funny thing…

When Callie’s mom, Beth, contacted me regarding her senior portrait session Beth mentioned that they wanted some thing short and more of a cap and gown session to commemorate this time. We decided on their East Bay home for Callie’s senior photos. Their home is situated at the base of a ridgeline and Beth is something of a master gardener. I knew it would be a perfect combination of lush nature and sentimental and sentimental beauty. To say that their property is an oasis from our busy world would be an understatement. For Callie’s session we had ample garden space and native California plants to work with. It was also spring which meant everything was still green and lush. It was the ideal setting for Callie‘s senior photos.

The great thing about Callie’s home is that it has several different options for photos. There is a small copse of redwoods, a swimming pool, a vegetable garden, lots of vegetation teeming with poppies and vetch, and my favorite: the garage which has a bohemian desert vibe. The garage had originally been landscaped with lavender, but in an effort to create fire prevention Beth has swapped that out for gravel and succulents. It was senior portrait perfection! The contrast of the rustic orange hued wood with the dusty greens of the succulents created a lovely setting. Their yard also provided us with lots of open shade which is always important. The light concrete around the swimming pool was ideal for Callie‘s photos because it acted as a reflector and bounced all that natural light back up on her face. These are the things that we photographers get excited about lol!
PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA SENIOR PHOTOS
As I mentioned earlier, their yard is full of poppies. Years ago, I photographed her sister, Shona’s senior pictures. We had found a location in Pleasanton that had a smattering of poppies and mustard flowers. I am thrilled that years later Beth can have coordinating images displayed in her home. This is an example that even when your child’s photos are taken years apart they can still look cohesive when displayed in your home.

Callie’s garnet red top paired well with both the rich royal blue of her cap and gown and the green landscape. Her clothing is a fabulous example of how to pair clothing color choices with your location and any props you may use for your senior pictures. Not only were her color choices on point, but Callie also chose an outfit that she is confident in. It was the perfect combination of classic yet casual all while maintaining a youthful edge.
LIVERMORE, CALIFORNIA SENIOR PHOTOS
Like her siblings, Callie will be attending a small, East Coast liberal arts university in the fall. As I mentioned earlier, Callie is very thoughtful and mental health is something that is important to her. As a result, she will be majoring in psychology. I have no doubt that with her well-rounded mindset she will find tremendous success in helping others.

Having the opportunity to watch my clients grow over the years is such a gift. They have all grown up to become thoughtful young adults and it is a sublime experience to see their lives unfold. Callie is going to leave her mark on this world and truly make it a better place.
