There is always a bit of anxious stress before a senior portrait session, or any photo session for that matter. No matter how hard we try to prevent it I think it’s just natural. Having been on the other side of the camera I can confidently tell you that I get it. One of the biggest and most common worries for my East Bay seniors is posing. As a result I felt compelled to dedicate a blog post to this so can eliminate this worry with my three quick and easy tips. It is my goal to reassure you and build confidence so you can approach this day ready for FUN and not with anxiety

Tip 1:
I will walk you through everything. Here’s the deal: I do not expect you to be a supermodel or to be a posing aficionado. There is a bit of a science to posing for photos and it is something that I continue to study constantly even after all these years of being a photographer. Although candid images are great, there is some posing that will go into your photos to ensure that you look your best. I will not only guide you through poses, but I will also explain the methodology behind it. I want you to not only feel informed, but I also want to build a foundation of trust with you and I believe that begins with communication.

Tip 2:
Not only will I talk you through a pose, but I will also model it for you and show you photos of the pose. Talking you through different poses and techniques isn’t always enough. If you’re like me, sometimes it helps to have a visual. I will explain as clearly as possible, but maybe my explanation is confusing or maybe you’re nervous and that makes it hard to fully focus (like when you’re doing a complex math problem in front of the class). I have been there and I completely understand why visuals are important to you nail that pose.

Tip 3:
Know that I have your back and this is your safe space! It is vital to me that you feel your best and most confident in addition to absolutely loving your photos. So I am here to help you look your best and won’t let you look like anything less because I have your back. I want you to know you can trust me and that I will look out for you. THis safe space means you have full veto power. If there is a pose you don’t want to do or don’t love you just have to say so. My feelings will not be hurt and there will be no questions asked.
